PURPOSE: A device for detecting an external attack of an electronic chip is provided to secure the hardware security embedded with the electronic chip, such as a smart card, by detecting the external attack in case of breaking of a wire through the detection a potential difference between one end and other end of the wire. CONSTITUTION: Detection wires(10,20) are formed around the hardware embedded with the electronic chip. A potential difference generator(40) generates the potential difference between both ends of the detection wires(10,20) by a pulse signal as a control signal. A potential difference detector(50) detects the disconnection if the potential difference except a specific resistance between both ends of the detection wires(10,20) by detecting the potential difference between both ends generated by the potential difference generator(40).
