PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent character display tube which makes less differences among luminances of luminous areas to occur by forming a display area extending near inner sides. SOLUTION: Both ends of filament cathodes 11 are stretch-installed to anchor members 12 and 13 whose shapes are different from each other, respectively. Fixing portions 12c and 13c are formed at tips of arms 12b and 13b which extend in prescribed directions from bases 12a and 13a of the anchor members 12 and 13. The arm 12b and the arm 13b orient to the same direction when the filament cathodes 11 are stretch- installed by disposing a pair of the anchor members in line simmetries relative to bisectors of the cathodes 11. A first group A of the filament cathodes 11 is disposed near one peripheral side of the fluorescent character tube, and a second group B of the filament cathodes 11 is disposed near another peripheral side of the fluorescent character tube. The group A and the group B are disposed while shifting their positions each other in the long direction of the filament cathodes 11. The display area can be expanded because luminous areas can be disposed near the inner side of a hermetic container, and the differences among the luminances of luminous areas can be suppressed because the filament cathode positions for the luminous area positions are kept fixed because shiftings of the filament cathodes 11 by their thermal expansions are limited to parallel shiftings.
