<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid fuel direct supply type fuel cell of long life time, capable of withstanding operation of extended periods. <P>SOLUTION: A power generation unit 10 comprises a unit cell, in which a negative electrode 12 and a positive electrode 13 are disposed via an electrolyte 11 comprising a proton-conductive polymer electrolyte, and the negative electrode 12 is supplied with a liquid fuel, while the positive electrode 13 is supplied with an oxidizer gas, or a cell stack in which a plurality of unit cells are stacked.
