A fiber optic cable (1) with an electric wire (EW) (5) stretches between two stations (2a,2b) separated by an ocean (3) each feeding the EW that contains repeaters (4) to boost/regenerate optical signals. A switch in a junction box (9c) isolates part of the EW stretching towards one (2a) of the stations from part of the EW stretching towards the other station (2b). Independent claims are also included for a junction box for joining together optical fibers for two fiber optic cable sections and an electric wire, for a fiber optic cable with an electric wire and two sections joined to other optical fibers and for a method for making the present invention safe.
