PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device to establish an ad hoc network between computer users. SOLUTION: A computer 100 comprises an input device such as a keyboard 130 or a graphical pointing device 120 having a selector 140 that generates a signal which indicates that a user has selected an ad hoc networking function. In one embodiment, the computer includes a processor, coupled to the input device, which receives the signal and causes the computer to participate in the ad hoc network. The computer 100 can also include a network interface, coupled to the processor, for communicating directly with at least one other computer within wireless communication range of the first computer 100.
