PURPOSE: A method for controlling a service mode of a wireless mobile terminal is provided to forcibly select a multi-service mode or a voice service mode, on the basis of a difference between interference-to-power ratios of two channels having most excellent field intensity and a compared result between the difference and a preset critical difference, thereby preventing temporary short of a communication service caused by a frequent change of a communication service mode. CONSTITUTION: A channel search block searches all channels, and decides whether a channel having field intensity exceeding a preset threshold exists(202,204), if so, to maintain a multi-service mode that uses the corresponding channel as a communication channel(218). If a corresponding channel does not exist, the channel search block performs channel loop, to deliver radio wave signals of all channels to an interference-to-power ratio calculation block(206). The interference-to-power ratio calculation block calculates noise-to-power ratios of each channel(208). A candidate decision block decides a channel having the best interference-to-power ratio among multi-service mode channels as the first candidate channel, and a channel having the best interference-to-power ratio among voice service mode channels as the second candidate channel(210). A mode selection block calculates a difference between the interference-to-power ratios of the first and second candidate channels(212), and decides whether the calculated difference is larger than a critical difference(214). If so, the channel search block decides and maintains the multi-service mode or a voice service mode to use the first or second candidate channel having a larger interference-to-power ratio as a communication channel(216). If not larger in the step 214, the channel search block decides and maintains the multi-service to use the first candidate channel as a communication channel(218).
