PURPOSE: A method for remotely controlling a short message of a telephone is provided to retrieve short messages stored in a memory of a general phone from a remote place, and to supply the retrieved short messages as text messages or voices when necessary, thereby enabling a user to listen to the messages in a remote place by replaying the messages. CONSTITUTION: In an initial state(S1), a telephone decides whether a general speech mode is set(S2). If not, the telephone decides whether an absent message processing function is executed(S4). If so, the telephone transmits an absent announcement message to the other telephone, and stores a short message in a memory if the message is inputted from the other telephone(S5). The telephone decides whether a remote control mode signal is inputted from a communication terminal of a remote place(S6). If so, the telephone decides whether the short message is requested to be converted into a voice signal(S8). If so, the telephone converts the short message into the voice signal, and transmits the voice signal to a terminal of the remote place(S10). The telephone decides whether a remote control mode setup signal is completed(S11). If so, the telephone completes the procedure.
