PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanner which can irradiate a large quantity of light on a film and can have a high throughput. SOLUTION: A scanner 10 includes a light source 24 which emits collimated or parallel light toward a negative film. As the light source 24, a light source having a resonance structure such as a microcavity EL or a surface type laser is selected and used. A moving means 25 is mounted to the light source 24. The moving means 25 is used to space the light source 24 from the negative film 12 when the film 12 is moved and to move the light source 24 closer to the film 12 when the film 12 is scanned. Light passed through the film 12 is projected on a CCD sensor 30 through a projecting lens 32. The CCD sensor 30 converts the received light to an electric signal to obtain image data. As the negative film 12, a film, for example, subjected to a color developing step and then to a quick developing step without subjecting to any one of bleaching and fixing steps is used.
