PURPOSE: An apparatus for managing IDs and bar codes of units, using an NMS(Network Management System), and an operating method therefor are provided to manage the IDs and the bar codes with respect to the units of each communication equipment. CONSTITUTION: An I/F(Interface) unit(12) connects to an NMS(400), and transmits and receives a corresponding signal. A control unit(14) connects to the I/F unit(12), confirms mounting positions, IDs, bar codes, and version codes of a plurality of units(16), and transmits the mounting positions, the IDs, the bar codes, and the version codes of the units(16) to the NMS(400). A plurality of the units(16) output the mounting positions, the IDs, the bar codes, and the version codes by the control of the control unit(14). A DB(18) stores the mounting positions, the IDs, the bar codes, and the version codes of the units(16) by the control of the control unit(14).
