PURPOSE: Provided are a method for producing a resin composition useful for developer for electrophotograph, inkjet ink, powder paint, adhesive, water-soluble fiber processing agent, and coating, and a resin composition produced by the method. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of (1) forming a depolymerized composition comprising (a) depolymerizing waste polyester with polyol and removing an excess polyol, so as to form a depolymerized composition, and/or (b) adding a solid resin which is a depolymerization stabilizer, to the depolymerized composition, so as to compatibilize the depolymerized composition; (2) adding (a) DMSSIP(dimethyl 5-sulfoisophthalate sodium salt) which is a monomer for imparting hydrophilic functional group, alone, or (b) a mixture of DMSSIP and any one of polybasic acids, to the depolymerized composition, so as to polycondense the composition, while post-adding a polyol for adjusting an acid value so as to form a polyester resin composition; and (3)(a) dissolving a part of the polyester composition of the step(2) into water to form an aqueous composition, (b) dissolving a part of the polyester composition into hydrophilic solvent, to form a liquid composition, and (c) forming the rest of the composition into a mass resin composition.
