PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum display device that is made thin and light and does not have the problem of discharge and crosstalk. SOLUTION: The vacuum display element 1 is composed of an anode substrate 2, a control substrate 6, a back substrate 3, and a side plate 4 or the like. The anode substrate 2 is provided with light-emitting dots 7 arranged in a matrix, and the control substrate 6 is provided with through-holes 8 corresponding to the dots and stripe-shaped control electrodes 9 and the surface of an anode electrode side is provided with antistatic electrodes. The through- holes 8 are provided with mesh grids 16 electrically connected to the control electrodes. The inside of the back substrate 3 is provided with stripe-shaped back electrodes 10 which are perpendicular to the control electrodes 9, and filament cathodes 11 on the back substrate 3 side are parallel to the control electrodes. The back electrodes 10 are scanned, and display signals are sent to the control electrodes 9. Electrons pass through the selected through-hole 8 and strike the light-emitting dot 7 directly below the through-hole to make the dot emit light. By virtue of the mesh grids 16, anode potential does not adversely affect the selectivity of the control electrodes 9, and a simple structure can be achieved by three substrates 2, 3 and 6.
