PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape winder which carries out a process for writing a servo signal in a magnetic tape, and a process for winding up the magnetic tape having the servo signal written to the tape reel of a magnetic tape cartridge with one apparatus. SOLUTION: The tape winder includes a feed reel to feed the magnetic tape MT1 in which the servo signal is not written, and a winding shaft into which the tape reel of the magnetic tape cartridge is inserted. A write head H1 for the servo signal and a read head H2 for the servo signal which operate under the control of a control part 15 are arranged in order between the delivery reel and the winding shaft. The control part 15 is provided with a tape running speed detecting means 16 to detect the running speed of the magnetic tape, and a recording electric current output part 17 to output a recording electric current corresponding to the servo signal at a frequency corresponding to the running speed of the magnetic tape MT on the basis of the detection result of the tape running speed detecting means 16.
