PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem, when a curvature from a core edge to a corer thickness center on the side of a rotating drum is equal to a curvature from a core edge to a core thickness center on the side of a fixed drum in the curvature, in the direction of the core thickness of a magnetic head used in a rotary magnetic recording-and-reproducing device, the magnetic head at its initial running under reproduction does not come into perfect contact with a magnetic tape, the drop in an envelope occurs, superior envelope characteristics are not obtainable and ensuring sufficient performance of the magnetic head is not possible. SOLUTION: In the curvature in the direction of the core thickness 6 of the magnetic head 22, a curvature r1 from a core edge part 8 to a core thickness center 7 on the side of the rotating drum 1 is larger than a curvature r2 from an edge part 9 to the core thickness center 7 on the side of the fixed drum so that the contact between the magnetic head 3 and the magnetic tape 10 under recording or reproduction is improved.
