PURPOSE: Provided is a cosmetic composition including a plant extract containing abscisic acid and a derivative thereof which inhibit hyperkeratosis or hyper-desquamation by controlling the growth of skin fibroblasts while improving skin appearance. Therefore, the composition has no irritation, reduces skin wrinkles, improves aged skin and provides skin transparency to the skin. CONSTITUTION: A cosmetic composition for improving skin appearance contains 0.00001 to 1% by weight of abscisic acid and a derivative thereof represented by the formula 1 as an active ingredient, based on the dried weight. In formula, R is H or CH3. The abscisic acid and a derivative thereof are in the form of an extract of a plant selected from the group consisting of Narcissus tazetta L. var. chinensis Roem., Arabidopsis thaliana, avocado, Lycopersicon esculentum or Pisum sativum L. The cosmetic composition further contains a skin softening agent, a wrinkle removing agent, a skin whitening agent or an antioxidant.
