PURPOSE: Pregnane glycosides having acetylcholine esterase(AChE) inhibiting activity and a composition containing the same as an active ingredient for prevention and treatment of degenerative diseases of nervous system are provided. CONSTITUTION: Pregnane glycosides having acetylcholine esterase(AChE) inhibiting activity and represented by the formula(I) are provided, wherein R1 is hydrogen or hydroxy. A composition for the prevention and treatment of degenerative diseases of nervous system contains the pregnane glycosides of the formula(I) as an active ingredient, wherein the pregnane glycosides are prepared from a rice extract prepared by extracting the rice with C1-4 alcohol or diluting the alcohol extract in water, extracting the diluted alcohol extract with n-hexane, extracting a water-soluble fraction with EtOAc or n-BuOH, and subjecting the EtOAc or n-BuOH extract to column chromatography.
