PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire a desired illumination intensity by changing a stabilizer for an existing metal halide lamp to a stabilizer with variable impedance, and adding a regulator and to provide a system having high energy-saving effect. SOLUTION: The lighting device with phase lag for a metal halide lamp is provided with a regulator having a choke coil CH1 maintaining a rated lamp current and a choke coil CH2 capable of changing impedance continuously and equivalently connected in series to change the impedance of the choke coil CH2 by a pulse signal.
