PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method for step motor to prevent step out reliably which may occur due to the state of load in terms of mechanism. SOLUTION: When a step motor is stopped, a stop phase in which the motor should be stopped is held for a predetermined time and then excitation is stopped. When driving of the step motor is restarted, the stop phase is not taken as a start phase. Instead, a phase in a position back from the stop phase by an amount equivalent to phases in which at least phase shift due to the state of load in terms of mechanism can be absorbed is taken as a start phase and held for a predetermined time before excitation is started.
