PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for automatically detecting a document and classifying it. SOLUTION: This invention provides the method for capturing an image used by a digital camera 100 including: a step of capturing a preview image of a scene; a step 110 of automatically determining whether or not the captured scene is a document; a step of programming at least one camera control to be tailored for document capture when it is determined that the scene is a document; and a step of capturing the scene by using the programmed camera control.
