Penta-coordinated gallium(III) carboxylate complexes (I) of alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylates, coordinated with 2 moles at least bicyclic hydroxy-substituted condensed N-heterocyclic compound are new. Penta-coordinated gallium(III) carboxylate complexes of formula (I) are new: Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Preparation of (I) by reacting corresponding 8-hydroxyquinoline compounds (II), unsaturated carboxylic acids (III) and Ga(III) salts (IV) in aqueous solution or a solvent mixture containing water; (2) Light-emitting devices containing (I).
