Method for complexity reduction relating to a system comprising a large number of parts and assemblies and a classification of said parts and assemblies. Accordingly parts and assemblies are classified using a property structure, whereby parts and or assemblies are described using attributes and classification data are centrally stored and maintained. The classification incorporates variant and version management. The invention also relates to a corresponding system for complexity reduction and a complexity- orientated parts list that incorporates rules relating to how parts are classified and their attributes.
