PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable permanent dyeing of hair without damaging the hair, even upon repetitive application. SOLUTION: A process for dyeing human hair comprises steps (A)-(F) wherein (A) a composition containing a reactive dye with a pH of 2-5 is applied to human hair and (B) left for about 5-45 min, (C) the hair is rinsed and dried if required, (D) a composition with a pH of 7.5-12 is applied and (E) left for 1-20 min, and (F) the dyed hair is rinsed or shampooed and dried.
