PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially suitable method for producing a 3- carboxyindazole derivative by which the 3-carboxyindazole derivative is produced from an o-aminophenylacetic acid derivative represented by general formula (1) [wherein, R<SP>1</SP>is hydrogen atom or a carboxyalkyl group represented by general formula (2) (wherein, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>denote each hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group)] in high yield by a simple method. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 3-carboxyindazole derivative comprises reacting the o-aminophenylacetic acid derivative with a nitrite in water solvent under acidic conditions, then adding a base to the resultant reactional liquid and carrying out a reaction under basic conditions.
