The invention concerns a press for laminating a document, in particular a portable press. The inventive press comprises a lower plate (10) designed for receiving a document to be laminated, an upper plate (30) linked to a frame (2) and means for pressing the lower plate against the upper plate for laminating the document including in particular force and pressure adjusting means (5). The invention is characterized in that the pressing means further comprise means for raising (4) the lower plate towards the upper plate to ensure contact during the laminating process and means for transmitting the pressure force to the upper plate, said transmission means comprising for example a lever (6) articulated about a pivot (21) of the frame.
