PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel supply pump capable of stopping force-feeding of fuel from a plunger chamber even when an engine rotates at high speed. SOLUTION: This fuel supply pump comprises proportional control valves 16, 17 controlling the flow rate of fuel supplied from a feed pump 40 to a plunger chamber 28; an overflow valve 18 installed in the middle of a first return passage 68 communicating the proportional control valves 16, 17 with a fuel tank 47 and restraining pressure rising of fuel supplied to the proportional control valves 16, 17; and an orifice 19 installed in the middle of a second return passage 69 communicating the plunger chamber 28 with downstream of the overflow valve 18 and reducing the cross section area of fuel flow returning to the fuel tank side. A check valve 20 is installed to the second return passage 69 downstream of the orifice 19, so as to avoid fuel flow from the downstream of the orifice 19 to the orifice side. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
