<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device having a density measurement unit which copes with miniaturization, therefore, is capable of density measurement even in a narrow space around an image carrier, and has less effect of heat even in the use of a plastic lens as to an imaging optical system. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming device has a reference toner image forming means, a density measurement means, and an image control means which controls image forming conditions based upon the density of the reference toner image measured by the density measurement means. The density measurement means has a light-emitting/-receiving unit having a light source and a light sensor.
