PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the visibility of a level gauge for checking the presence or absence of liquid in a tank. SOLUTION: The level gauge 3 is fitted to an opening 2 provided in the side wall 1a of the tank 1, a window 3b formed of a transparent body allowing direct view of liquid is provided in the frame body 3a of the level gauge 3, and a view plate 4 allowing light from the window 3b into the tank 1 to strike thereon is installed in the window 3b on the tank 1 inner side. When the view plate 4 is lightly illuminated by the light from the window 3b, light with hue of color from the brightened view plate 4 is returned to the window 3b. A large number of fine translucent grain bodies 5 are disposed on the surface of the view plate 4, and light from the view plate 4 sideways or upward is reflected on the inside of the translucent grain bodies 5 and directed toward the forward window 3b.
