PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a joint structure of columns and a method of joint of the columns adjacent to each other in a vertical direction wherein a number of parts is reduced and the structure is simplified in a joint structure of the columns having an upper column and a lower column joined by butt welding in a column-beam connecting panel. SOLUTION: Ends of side portions of joint members 6, having substantially L-shaped or channel-shaped sections or the like and functioning as members to join with a beam web and as erection pieces for temporary fixing, are respectively fixed in advance to a lower end portion 3 of an upper column 2 in an upper position and an upper end portion 5 of a lower column 4 in a lower position, both end portions being arranged in a column-beam connecting panel 1. A splice plate 14 is arranged to span the other side portions of the upper and the lower joint members 6 so as to fix the upper and the lower columns 2, 4 to each other by bolts 15. A web 16 of a beam 8 is fixed to the above- mentioned side portions of the joint members 6 by bolts 17, and the end portions of the columns are fixed to each other by welding.
