PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface layer ground improvement method capable of approximately uniformly mixing a cement hardener with earth and sand to be dug up to stir over the whole area within a range of ground improvement, easily forming a roller compacted layer containing the hardener with a uniform quality and obtaining sufficient bearing force by the ground improvement. SOLUTION: After a predetermined amount of the cement hardener 4 has been uniformly put in each of a plurality of portions (3) having the approximately same area within a range 2 of the ground improvement in the ground 1, it is mixed with the earth and sand to be dug up to stir. Then, the mixture is spread in the predetermined thickness to compact it so that the rolling compacted layer is formed of the cement hardener mixed earth and sand over the whole area within a range 2 of the ground improvement. As the cement hardener 4, a white cement or a mixture of paints distinguishable from earth and sand in advance can be used. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
