PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a 1,1'-thiobis[4-(ethenyltio)benzene] at a high yield. SOLUTION: This method for producing a 1,1'-thiobis[4-(ethenylthio)benzene] represented by the general formula (2) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>8</SP>are each H, a halogen atom or a 1-4C alkyl) is characterized by reacting a 1,1'-thiobisä4-[(2- halogenoethyl)thio]benzene} represented by the general formula (1) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>8</SP>are each H, a halogen atom or a 1-4C alkyl; and X is a halogen atom) with an alkali metal compound in an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of a phase-transfer catalyst in a heterogeneous system.
