PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a method for producing an adamantanol from adamantanes in a high yield and high selectivity by an industrially advantageous method. SOLUTION: This method for producing adamantanols comprises reacting adamantanes such as adamantine in a reaction solution comprising a concentrated sulfuric acid, a carbocation-producing compound such as tertiary butyl alcohol and an organic nitrile compound such as acetonitrile and mixing the resultant reaction solution with water at 20-90°C, preferably in such water amount used that sulfuric acid concentration after mixing with the reaction solution becomes 30-60 wt.%.
