<p>The present invention provides for methods of treating cognitive deficits resulting from interruption of blood supply and/or oxygen deficit by administering a therapeutically effective dose of a sulfonyl fluoride, such as methanesulfonyl fluoride and ethanesulfonyl fluoride. The underlying cause of the or oxygen deficit can be from stroke, trauma, carbon monoxide poisoning, and other poisonings.
