PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a 3-hydroxyester from an epoxide. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 3-hydroxyester is characterized by comprising (a) a stage of performing a reaction of carbon monoxide and alcohol in a solvent under conditions at 30-150°C temperature and 50-3,000 psig pressure by using a catalytic system containing a cobalt compound of a catalytic amount and an accelerating agent in an effective amount to produce the 3- hydroxyester or its derivative, (b) a stage for separating the product and solvent at (-)30-20°C temperature condition by using a stabilizing gas in an absorbing column from the cobalt compound and accelerating agent, (c) a stage for returning the cobalt compound and accelerating agent separated in the stage (c) partially or totally to the stage (a) for reacting.
