PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an economic method for recovering acid valuables from the reaction gas mixture formed by catalytic oxidation of propylene with dioxygen gas source. SOLUTION: (a) A gas mixture including the acid valuable of acrylic acid and acetic acid, steam and one kind, or two or more kinds of noncondensable gases is quenched with an aqueous quenching liquid to form an aqueous solution including acid valuables. (b) The aqueous solution is brought into contact with an immiscible solvent comprising propyl acetate and cyclohexane to form the organic extract layer including most of the acid valuables and propyl acetate and an aqueous raffinate including a small amount of propyl acetate. (c) The organic extract is fractionated by distillation to obtain a low boiling fraction substantially free from cyclohexane. (d) The high boiling fraction is further fractionated to obtain the acrylic acid product substantially free from propyl acetate and the propyl acetate fraction including propyl acetate and acetic acid.
