PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately judge a failure of an air-conditioning clutch or a com pressor constituting an air conditioner which is loaded on a vehicle, at a low cost. SOLUTION: In a step S1, an inputting process is performed. When the vehicle is placed under a stable running state, in a failure-detecting condition establishment judging process (a step S2), a failure-detecting condition establishment flag Ftr is set to be 1. When the failure-detecting condition establishment flag Ftr is set to be 1, by a branching process in a step S5, a first failure-detecting process (a step S6) is performed when the air-conditioning clutch 54 is under a connected state, and a second failure-detecting process (a step S7) is performed when the air-conditioning clutch 54 is under a disconnected state. In the first and second failure-detecting processes, a variation of an inlet pipe pressure P is checked by switching the connected and disconnected states of the air- conditioning clutch 54. A failure of the compressor 52 or the air-conditioning clutch 54 is judged by the variation of the inlet pipe pressure P. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
