An image processing apparatus and an image processing method includes a step of calculating a pixel signal level difference between a detection pixel on a current field and a detection pixel at the same position on the field later by one frame, a step of identifying fields constituting the frame according to the obtained difference value, a step of detecting a motion vector defined by a detection pixel on the current field and a detection pixel on the field later by two frames from the current field, a step of shifting the detection pixel in the opposite direction to the motion vector in an identified first field within the range of the detected motion vector, a step of shifting the detection pixel in the direction of the motion vector in an identified fourth field, and a step of shifting the detection pixel in the direction of the motion vector or in the opposite direction to the motion vector so that the detection pixel in the first field successively approaches, in an identified second and third field, to the pixel position shifted in the fourth field.
