<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head protecting air bag device capable of compacting a storing space in the longitudinal direction of an air bag, by regulating the movement of the air bag to the outside of a car at the completion of development and inflation. <P>SOLUTION: This head protecting air bag device M has the air bag 12 that is folded and stored on the upper edge side of the peripheral edge of a side window of a vehicle and develops and inflates downwardly when gas for inflation flows in. The air bag 12 is mounted to a front side pillar part disposed substantially vertically at its one end in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, and has a plate-like inflation part 16 that can receive the gas for inflation to inflate substantially like a plate and cover the indoor side I of the side window on the end side separated from the front side pillar part.
