PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a method of scanning a medium to be exposed which can yield a scan image free of or inconspicuous of flawed image by a flaw occurring at least the surface on a photosensitive agent layer of the medium to be exposed. SOLUTION: A developer 28 sticking to a negative film (medium to be exposed) 12 of which the developing process step ends is first removed. For example, water 34 is imparted as a refractive index compensation medium to both surfaces of the negative film 28 from which the developer 28 is removed. When the water 34 intrudes into the flaw 44 as a result thereof, the negative film 12 is scanned before the water 34 dries. The equally good alternative is to impart the refractive index compensation media of the respectively different refractive indices to the surface on a base material 41 side of the negative film 12 and the surface on the photosensitive agent layer side and to scan the negative film. The refractive index compensation medium may be imparted only to the surface on the photosensitive agent layer 16 side of the negative film 12. The negative film which does not undergo at least either of a bleaching process step and a fixing process step after undergoing, for example, a color developing process step is used as the negative film 12.
