PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophoretic display device improved in contrast and a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The electrophoretic display device is provided with display layers 41 and 42 having at least dispersion media 50 and display particle bodies 60 dispersed in the dispersion media 50, and the dispersion media 50 are formed of a solvent mixture composed of silicone oil and denatured silicone oil. As a result, not only the contrast higher than that of the conventional electrophoretic display device can be obtained but a higher rewriting speed (transfer speed) can be obtained as well.
