<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength demultiplexer that can be made small and has a low loss, and a wavelength demultiplexing switch using the wavelength demultiplexer. <P>SOLUTION: On one surface of a substrate 10 made of a semiconductor substrate, a channel optical waveguide 1 for input, a plurality of channel optical waveguides 5 for output, an array waveguide 8 interposing between the channel optical waveguide 1 for input and the plurality of channel optical waveguides 5 for output, an input side slab optical waveguide 2 interposing between the channel optical waveguide 1 for input and the array waveguide 8, and an output side slab optical waveguide 4 interposing between the array waveguide 8 and the plurality of channel optical waveguides 5 for output, are formed. The array waveguide 8 is formed by arranging a plurality of linear channel optical waveguides 8a of the same length dimension. Each of the channel optical waveguides 8a has a single quantum well structure.
