Overload protection device for a surface scales with a scale pan that is connected to a weight sensor via an auxiliary parallel guide. A linkage of the parallel guide comprises a tensioned spring (11), while its other linkage comprises a rod (14) that meshes in a lower recess (15). At least the rod or recess is conical with the rod pressed into the recess by the compression force of the spring. If the scales are overloaded the tensioned spring bends until a limiting stop (1') is reached.
