PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeding and carrying device capable of detecting the service life of a paper feeding roller in a paper feeding method not causing a time lag in paper feeding and position shift. SOLUTION: In the paper feeding and carrying device from a recording material container to a resist roller section wherein first of all, a recording material is drawn from the recording material container, and then after performing separating operation at a recording material separation section and stopping the recording material for a while, the recording material is sent to a resist roller, which is arranged in the image transferring direction, at a desired time interval, a prediction means is provided for predicting the service life of a paper feeding and carrying roller based on the time from the restart of the recording material after the temporary stopping of the recording material to the time when the recording material passes through a sensor installed downstream.
