The present invention relates to compounds suitable for the treatment of conditions which may be improved, at least in part, by increasing TNF .alpha. production. The invention further relates to assays for the identification of an individual at increased risk for or suffering from such conditions and to methods of screening compounds for their ability to enhance TNF .alpha. biosysthesis.
