<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase printing speed without increasing a paper sheet carrying rate at an image forming position when forming an image on a plurality of paper sheets 3 continuously. <P>SOLUTION: In feeding paper sheets 3 one by one in spaced relation from a paper sheet feeding section through a paper sheet feeding roller 12, the paper sheet carrying speed, which is controlled by the third paper sheet carrying means 11 arranged in properly spaced relation in a paper sheet carrying passage, a second paper sheet carrying passage 10 and a resist roller 9, is set so as to become slower as the paper sheet advances downstream in order, and they are provided with clutch means 70, 80, 81 and 82, respectively. Paper sheet sensors 54, 55 and 56 are arranged between the carrying means adjacent to each other upstream and the carrying means adjacent to each other downstream to detect the tip sections of paper sheets in the carrying direction.
