PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode which is an electrolytic electrode for metal plating, such as zinc or tin plating, is suitable for the use as an electrode the positive polarization and negative polarization of which are alternately repeated, and has a long use life. SOLUTION: This electrode is prepared by forming, on a conductive substrate, an intermediate layer from a mixture which comprises platinum and iridium oxide and contains, in terms of metal, 60-90 atom.% platinum and 10-40 atom.% iridium, and then forming, on the intermediate layer, a surface layer from a mixture which comprises iridium oxide and tantalum oxide and contains, in terms of metal, 50-90 atom.% iridium and 10-50 atom.% tantalum. A suitable amount of the intermediate layer is 30-80 g/m<SP>2</SP>; and that of the surface layer, 10-50 g/m<SP>2</SP>. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
