PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing in high purity an aromatic organoboron compound useful as e.g. an olefin polymerization catalyst by efficiently introducing a functional group into a tetraarylboron anion. SOLUTION: This aromatic organoboron compound is obtained by reacting an organometallic compound with an organoboron compound containing the tetraarylboron anion and then reacting the resultant reaction product with a specified silicon compound such as methyltrichlorosilane or dimethyldichlorosilane in a solvent including a hydrocarbon or chain ether.
