During the determination of the distance of an object on the basis of sampled measuring values of a CV sensor, a drift in the result is caused by a multitude of effects. Until now, for example, an approach has been taken whereby a temperature-dependent correction function or table is used for the calculated distance values. Furthermore, each sensor must be calibrated within the framework of the production due to component dispersions. Other effects, excluding temperature drift, are not taken into account or signify a considerable increase in cost (e.g. in the case of dependence on the power of the emitter). The invention relates to a method for measuring distance by means of an active optical sensor arrangement in a vehicle. According to the invention, distance is measured according to a pulse transit time method and by sampling the received signals; a distance correction value is determined for the distance measured; and the sensor arrangement is arranged in a housing. The inventive method is characterised in that the distance correction value is determined on the basis of construction-related stray light which is dependent on the site of assembly. The inventive method is especially suitable as an evaluation method for optical pre-crash sensors in vehicles.
