The invention relates to a method for producing cellulose carbamate by reacting cellulose with urea. The novel method permits a homogeneous temperature distribution in the reaction mixture, without the need for large quantities of suspending agents to be added as heat-transfer media. According to the inventive method, the heat transfer to the reaction mixture is achieved by heating cellulose in the presence of melted or dissolved urea, with the aid of electromagnetic radiation. Methods of this type are used for the production of fibres, films, beads, sponges and other cellulose-based moulded bodies.
