PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately focus a camera even when a focal point has not been obtained yet by peak point focusing method in a method for obtaining the final focal point by redriving a lens around a focal point obtained by the peak point focusing method before regular photographing. SOLUTION: The driving range of a focus lens at regular exposure is changed (S702 and S703) in accordance with whether a peak position is detected after an AF (automatic focus) operation in a peak point mode is completed (S701). A focus evaluation value is compared with a prescribed value (S1002 in figure 10), and the driving range of the focus lens at the regular exposure is changed in accordance with the results of the comparison.
