PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarization dependant loss measuring device capable of automatically measuring polarization dependant loss (PDL) and relating the measurement result of PDL to a wavelength dependance measurement result. SOLUTION: When a measurement start button of an operation part 3 is depressed after an object 8, which is to be measured, is set, wavelength dependence measurement is performed. Then, a peak wavelength detection process is performed which detects the wavelength where the loss or gain of transmission light from the object 8 is maximum. Then, a polarization dependant loss measurement process is performed which measures the polarization dependant loss of the object 8 by measuring the transmission light from the object 8 while the light of wavelength detected by the peak wavelength detection process is made incident on the object 8, with the polarization state of the light being changed at random. After the measurement, a control circuit in a polarization dependant loss measuring device 1 relates the wavelength dependence analysis result to the PDL measurement result, and its result is displayed on a display part 2.
