The cleaner for conveyed metal strip prior to coating has feed rollers (2,3) for the strip (1) and a hollow hood to surround the strip and extend over its width. The hood has spray nozzles (5) and, in the area of the hood walls (41), with ventilators (6) to provide a preset pressure reduction ratio in the hood. The spray nozzles can rotate around an axis perpendicular to the suction face.
